Visitor Services of Spectacle Island

Boston, Massachusetts

Spectacle Island is a 105-acre island in Boston Harbor, 4 miles offshore of downtown Boston. It’s a seasonal attraction with a marina, visitor center, cafe, lifeguarded swimming beach, and five miles of walking trails. The Boston Harbor Islands Alliance, in coordination with the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, asked Beacon Architectural Associates to design new visitor amenities including accessible changing rooms, a seasonal rinse-off station, and a lifeguard shed at the west beach. The three new structures are designed with respect for the sensitive environmental conditions of Spectacle Island and apply solutions sympathetic to the existing landscape. The facilities are durable and require minimal maintenance.
