Old Dominion University - Campus Master Planning
This urban campus is unfortunately divided by a six lane highway. Beacon was challenged to knit together the two sides of the campus visually and physically and create various destination points (aka food service spaces) within the context of a “five minute walk” grid. In addition, Beacon’s plan would amplify the center of the campus and provide greater connection to the periphery. The long term project goals include: moving undergraduates closer to the main (west) part of the campus and the existing student center; freeing up the remainder of the east side of that major artery for continuing development of graduate student housing, retail, and research facilities; and simultaneously activating the connection to the Norfolk River.
