This 115,769 sf new construction project involved demolishing a 5 story structure at Kenmore Square and replacing it with an 11-story residential building which addresses Boston University’s growing need of on-campus housing for their graduate student population. The design solution consists of an on-site café space, 11 one-bedroom apartments and 209 studio apartments including handicapped accessible studios. All apartments have high quality finishes, full kitchens, modern bathrooms, central air-conditioning and high speed wired Internet access. Many of the units have bay windows which not only help to reduce the scale of the building but also take advantage of spectacular views of the Boston skyline and Charles River. The bay windows, the use of brick, precast concrete, and composite metal panels enable this modern building to fit comfortably within the context of an urban campus in a historic city.
